Just after our first pic session of the 2014, we took our star balloon to an old fun fair which was visiting our neighborhood during the Christmas holidays and took advantage of the closing hours to take some more pictures.
I’m not a fun fair boy (my body is not centrifugal-force-friendly) but we surely admire the beauty of the old attractions. As a little girl Damaris was a huge fan of “El Látigo” (The Whip), a hell of attraction consisting on a wagon that turns like a whip when facing the corner. I get dizzy with a simple ride on Alice in Wonderland teacups of Disneyland, so I usually keep away from these type of devilish rotating attraction (poor Damaris, she loves them).
Last Sunday night was the night of the Magic Kings, a Spanish tradition about three orient kings bringing gifts to baby Jesus, and being extremely late to his birthday. They’re like Santa; they enter into your home at night and bring you presents if you have behaved during the year, bad kids get coal instead. I think your guessing is right, Damaris raised Monday morning with a big pile of coal.
The magic kings mark the last day of the Christmas season, and with that the fun fair will be gone. Let’s get, while we can, a last look at the awesome and dreadful (parts equal) El Látigo! ;)
Behind Damaris you can see one of the rides inspired on the USA. There was another fun one called “Disneyland” with a (very) creepy Mickey Mouse that was the perfect nightmare for a child.
While walking around, Damaris saw El Latigo.
The wagons were decorated with the Olympic Rings (I guess they must be after the Barcelona games), so if you considered for a minute that the attraction did not looked that old, the Barcelona Olympic games took place on 92′ ;)
I was terrified thinking that Damaris would force me to get a ride.
Damaris used one of her Christmas’ gifts for her outfit, a Peter Pan detachable collar.
I look relieved after reassuring that there was not the least possibility to go for a ride, El Latigo 0 – My stomach 1
Damaris making fun of me after my centrifugal-force fear, the girl on his t-shirt is laughing at me too ;)
funny, I didn’t like crazy rides as a kid, but these days I’m getting more adventurous. great pics!!!
Ironically I loved crazy rides as a kid, hahaha, but at some point while growing up something changed in my stomach ;)
Lovely photos as always!
Thanks as always Nadia! ;)
Haha poor Damaris and the pile of coal :P
Lovely fair environment! Especially that’s
closed with no one around you c:
Xx
Thanks Mei! In Spain you can find sugar coal blocks, so Damaris’ pile was not that bad ;)
I used to be scared of roller coasters, so I would only ride the spinning rides, but then rode one right after eating a Dole Whip and… well, now I only ride roller coasters.
I can only ride roller coasters, but Damaris is scared by them, so we always end at the kids ones (it’s a small world after all and things like that, hahaha)
Gosh you guys are awesome, whats better than carnivals, closed carnivals! It has that abandoned eery feeling to it :) Dani I’m with you on the nausea I’m so lame I have to take motion sickness tablets before going to any theme park, or bus or boat :P
btw I don’t think you deserved the coal Damaris :)
Old carnivals are like gold for photographers! If you come to visit Barcelona we sure will go together to the Tibidabo Park, you will love it! ;) Lol about the motion sickness tablets, but it’s an awesome idea, why didn’t I think about it!
i’m like you! i get dizzy so so easily! i can’t even ride roller coasters! :) i love that you took that pretty balloon out for a photo shoot. such a great place too!
Thanks Jane, great to hear that there are lots of dizzy folks as well, I can feel sick only looking to that evil ! ;)
