Two weeks ago Albert turned 30 and we helped Anna with the surprise party she had in mind.
Anna took Albert to Tai chi lessons, and meanwhile the rest of us prepared the house for the surprise. All went smoothly until at the very end when he entered the house he saw a party streamer lying on the floor and (whoops!) he became suspicious.
We had lunch in their terrace with some typical Spanish snacks and a super impressive dessert: a homemade Super Mario cake. Diana, Miquel and Anna were the artists behind all the fondant decoration. In a game Pinterest Vs Real World, this would really take the ball; it was awesome!
Besides presents, Anna prepared another surprise; each one of us had to choose their favorite picture with Albert and wrote behind it the following 4 things:
- A movie that makes us think about him
- A song
- A funny or emotive anecdote involving him
- A quote or best wishes on his birthday
For me the most memorable moment we shared together was plain easy: The day of my wedding I had to tie my bow tie but, I fault my nerves, I wasn’t able to do it. Anna was at home keeping Damaris company while she had her make-up and got dressed, and she had the idea to call Albert to the rescue. As Albert had never tied a bow tie before, we watched together in my iphone a really helpful video until he was able to do it. I was relieved (has a wedding ever been cancelled because the groom is not able to tie his bow tie? Those were my kind of panic thoughts at that moment). Thanks Albert!
After the party, we finished it at a good Ramen place the four of us were craving for, called Ramen-ya Hiro. Another day we must make a post of the place!
Waiting for Damaris’ approval of the best height to hang the lanterns.
Typical (and delicious) snack food here: “Tortillas de patatas”, olives, cheese, chips…
Finishing the last details of the cake in the kitchen. Anna and Albert bought this traditional Japanese curtain in Japan, it makes it look like a Japanese restaurant, nice!
Waiting for Albert, would he be surprised?
Along with the “Tortilla de patatas” we usually eat “pà amb tomàquet” (bread spread with tomato)
This was our present, obviously showing his transition to a more mature stage…
An (awesome!) Star Wars Lego board game. We had a few games afterwards and it is so much fun, is like a simplified version of a chess game (using the force).
The picture Anna chose, do you remember it from somewhere?
This is the back of the picture I chose. Can you spot my washi bow tie? (credits of the washi craft all to Damaris)
Happy Birthday Albert!!!!!!!!

“In a game Pinterest Vs Real World, this would really take the ball”
haha that’s pretty funny- it totally would
I love the idea about writing on the back of a favorite picture. We usually go around saying our favorite things about the birthday person, but this would probably work much better.
Thanks! :) I’m a little shy myself, so being able to write it down worked for me, although we then read it out loud, so it finally was the same that you usually do, hahahah
Eooo el pastís del Mario és una passada !!!! Felicitats…..
