Good Monday! How was your weekend? We discovered on Saturday a very neat place that brought us good memories of our US road trip. Keep tuned for next week, we are still going through the pics because rumor has it that two kiddos may have gone a little crazy and took too many pics. And now to today’s adventure!
This year we were playing with the idea of renting a small boat and plough through the Netherlands canal waters this summer. We soon realized that it may be out of our current budget as it looks quite expensive (for only two) and also we maybe were too optimistic thinking that we could manage a boat without previous experience?
Dani had this type of summer vacations precisely in the Netherlands with his family lots of years ago, they also had 0 experience and none of them had a boat driving license but still managed perfectly fine during the trip & with the help of the lovely Dutch people. I also know that those were other times and maybe now having a driving license is mandatory.
The idea came to our minds when thinking about our summer vacations as little kids/teenagers. My grandparents had a summer-house in a fishers coastal town and I often had the lucky chance to go on 1-day boat trips with their friends. I know how I love the sea, but it has been ages since I have been on a boat myself (around 10 years, not even in a commercial one, just little row boats in lakes) and I am afraid that my phobias that are growing stronger day by day might have also been transferred to the sea and boats.
Oh well! We satisfied our boat craving by visiting them at the Maritime museum of the city (do the outfit look familiar?), which is so sparse that we only recommend visiting on Sunday’s afternoons when it is free.
Have you ever been on a cruise? Or a canal cruise? Do you like boats and sailing? I would love to read your experiences!
I have never been on a cruise before. Well, no wait I’ve been
on a ferry from Holland to England before but I don’t know
if that counts? And I was like 10 back then :P
Ohhh I see you really love our canals in Holland! The boat
ride through our canals sounds lovely, especially in the summer
but it’s quite pricey yes :c

Hehehe, I think ferry counts ;) I really would love to discover more about Holland, its towns and countryside. The price is not that bad for 4 people, so it seems that we need to fool a couple to come with us ;)
It’s too bad it would be too expensive, because a trip on a boat through the Netherlands would be so amazing! I haven’t been on a boat in probably about 15 years (other than the regular ferries that we occasionally take to get from where we live to Seattle, which is an hour ride) and I’ve been wishing lately that I knew someone who had one! In the summer it would be so nice to glide on the water and just relax…
Aw, Kristina you make it sound irresistible, now I’m craving a boat trip even more :)
sounds like a great plan. I’ve house-boat-sitted a Dutch double-wide last year. that was a great experience but didn’t involve any driving around. I’d love to do that one day though. we’re going to the south of France this summer and are thinking about renting a boat down there. but we have the same problem. no prior boat experience. but apparently down there, you don’t need much to get a motorboat. for pure sailing boats you do need a specific license, however. and not sure why I’m telling you this as it is completely irrelevant for you guys, lol…
I am terrified of the waters so I usually shy away from boats but I remembers summers away in girl scout camps and we would go in row boats and kayaks on the lake :) but if it was a boat like the one in the first picture i’m all in no matter how deep the water is! :D
I’d knew I’d love this post when it opened with Regina! I love boat trips, although I’ve only been on a few myself and never having had the responsibility of being the skipper/captain (which I’m sure I’d fail at) and I also think in Australia you’d need a boat license, maybe – lol – naive person here! Anyway for certainty, I can say, that gold boat is so pretty and matches your raincoat perfectly!
